Treatment Options

Drug and Alcohol
Detox

Detoxification is the first step in addiction treatment for clients who require medication-assisted therapy for substance abuse. Detox addresses and mitigates the physical withdrawal symptoms that clients may face, such as seizures, hallucinations, delirium, anxiety, irritability, insomnia, depression, strokes and heart attacks. The goal of this phase is returning the body to its prior state of being before being physically addicted to drugs.

Residential Rehab

Our inpatient alcohol and drug rehab center in Mission Viejo helps those struggling with substance use disorder (SUD) and need 24/7 care. The inpatient rehab program provides our patients with the opportunity to overcome their addiction. At Laguna Coast Recovery we provide several programs and therapies as part of out addiction treatment plan. With medication assisted detox and therapy sessions, our patients will acquire the skills needed to prevent relapse in the future.

Dual Diagnosis

A dual diagnosis is when someone has a substance use disorder and a mental illness. Also known as co-occurring disorders, a dual diagnosis requires specialized treatment that addresses the addiction and the co-occurring mental illness at the same time, each in the context of the other.

By participating in the therapy and support groups, our patients will begin to understand the underlying issues that prompted the substance abuse.

Other Therapeutic Modalities

Laguna Coast also provides other types of therapy to help our clients effectively recover from addiction. Some of those therapies include:

12 Step Programs

One of the most popular recovery programs from a variety of addictions is the 12-step program. This is a program type that revolves around 12 key steps to achieving long-term, successful addiction recovery. Examples of 12-step programs include Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. Let’s examine the beginnings of 12-step programs as well as the services and success rates participating in such programs provides.

Experiential Therapy

Experiential therapies involve hands-on activities that help people look at old problems in new ways. Some experiential therapies include art therapy, horticultural therapy and adventure therapy, which promote whole-person healing and support personal growth and empowerment. These therapies help by working through obstacles in a variety of settings and applying the lessons learned to “real” life.

Life Skills

At Laguna Coast Recovery we offer different services and programs that provide life skills to our patients. By learning these skills our patients can better integrate back into society and prevent the chance of relapse.

Our Adulting 101 class in Mission Viejo will help patients learn the important skills that will lead to a healthier lifestyle.

Medication Assisted Treatment

Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) programs use FDA- approved medications to treat Substance Use Disorders. These medications treat opioid addiction and alcoholism by relieving the withdrawal symptoms and psychological cravings that result from chemical imbalances.

The goal of MAT is keeping the body and brain chemistry balanced, so that a person can focus on their recovery.

Holistic Recovery

Traditional methods can help prevent relapse. But complementary Holistic therapies like yoga, mindfulness, and meditation can help as well. Yoga and mindfulness meditation target stress-related thoughts and emotions.

Yoga has been shown to increase the production of dopamine by up to 65%. This increase in dopamine can help lessen feelings of withdrawal and increase the likelihood of success in recovery.

Family Therapy

Family therapy is an important part of drug rehab treatment. When one family member is ill with the disease of addiction, the whole family is ill as well. Since the family is a system of closely connected parts, when one part “breaks down,” it affects the entire system. That’s why it is key that therapy is given to help heal the family as well as to help the person struggling with addiction. There are different therapeutic approaches to family therapy.
